foodpanda Partners with Tainan City Government to Launch Wet Market Delivery Service

Partnership will provide deliveries for 7 markets covering 60% of Tainan’s population, and aims to increase demand for wet market goods from younger consumers

17 April 2024, APAC (Taiwan) – foodpanda Taiwan announced its collaboration with the Tainan City Government to initiate  grocery delivery service for wet markets. This new service is launched across seven markets spanning six administrative districts, covering 60% of Tainan’s population. The service will enable deliveries for a diverse range of over 1,600 items including fresh produce, vegetables, cooked foods, and dry goods.

To gain insights into consumer habits and unearth new business opportunities for wet markets, foodpanda Taiwan conducted a survey involving over a thousand participants, revealing public expectations for wet market delivery services. With the survey insights, foodpanda also shared three major transformation strategies aimed at driving digital transformation for wet market merchant partners  and expanding their reach to younger customers.

foodpanda Taiwan’s General Manager, Eva Huang, said, “Many young consumers find it challenging to shop at wet markets due to constraints of time and location. foodpanda leverages robust operational capabilities and data analytics to break these barriers, enhancing the appeal of wet market delivery among younger demographics. We aim to help the government revitalize Tainan’s wet markets.”

foodpanda Head of Marketplace, Jeremy Wong, also added, “Tainan is the first city outside of Taipei and New Taipei City where foodpanda has ventured into wet market delivery. The wet markets offer diverse products that differ from supermarkets, including fresh meat of different parts, a variety of fish, and vegetables, catering to various customer needs. We will continue providing consumers with fresh, high-quality products.”

Tainan City Mayor, Wei-Che Huang also expressed his enthusiasm toward this cooperation, “Tainan City has been proactive in transforming wet markets. This includes not only improving the wet market environment but also integrating digital payment methods to increase market competitiveness. I’m glad for this partnership with foodpanda, which allows consumers to experience a wider variety of choices and aids in the digital transformation of Tainan’s traditional markets.”
