The new initiative aims to enhance the safety of delivery partners on the road
Singapore, 7 October 2024 – foodpanda, Singapore’s leading food and grocery delivery platform, launches Rider Safety Month in partnership with Traffic Police (TP). Officially launched by Guest-of-Honour Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development, the new initiative brings together TP, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and training providers to equip delivery partners with the resources, knowledge, and skills to confidently and safely navigate the roads.
In October, foodpanda delivery partners can sign up and take part in hands-on safety training courses conducted by training providers ComfortDelGro Driving Centre (CDC) and Singapore Cycling Federation. The courses are tailored according to vehicle type and will focus on practical techniques, hazard management and more. There will also be talks facilitated by TP and LTA, where participants will learn more about road and device safety, common causes of accidents, and have the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers through Q&A sessions .
Participating delivery partners will also receive a complimentary safety and essentials kit customised for each vehicle type, including an emergency toolkit, rain gear, a reflective shirt, first-aid supplies and more from foodpanda. Attendees of the courses are also eligible for safety rewards of up to $300 from foodpanda should they adhere to traffic rules and practise road safety.
The launch event on 7 October saw 45 delivery partners attend a road safety talk by TP and road safety demonstrations by training partner CDC. Attendees were educated on defensive riding techniques, and best safety practices, including pick-up and drop-off procedures.
“Ensuring the safety and welfare of our delivery partners is foodpanda’s top priority. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and Rider Safety Month empowers our delivery partners to do their part by equipping them with the skills and knowledge to operate safely and confidently on the roads”, explains Jonathan Borenstein, Head of Logistics, foodpanda Singapore. “Our goal is to promote long-term road safety awareness, so that our delivery partners will continue to prioritise and practise safe road habits all year round.”
One of the course participants was Azzeri, a full-time foodpanda delivery partner and father of four. “My priority is to return home to my family safely everyday, so I always make sure to drive carefully. The workshops and talks provided practical tips and real-world scenarios that complement my previous safety training, giving me more confidence in handling the unexpected challenges I face on the road,” he says.
Rider Safety Month is a part of ‘panda hearts’, foodpanda’s regional flagship programme aimed at uplifting and supporting delivery partners in five core areas: safety, well-being, personal development, community and welfare perks.
