8 JUNE 2021, SINGAPORE — Quick-commerce (q-commerce), the superlocal and superfast delivery of anything to your doorstep, has taken a turn for the fresh. foodpanda, Asia’s leading food and grocery delivery platform, reported close to 250% growth in fresh produce orders on pandamart in six months alone, between October 2020 to March 2021, whilst total grocery goods orders grow almost 160% (or 2.5 times), as consumers turn to fast, safe and convenient on-demand home deliveries.

Amidst waves of COVID-19 lockdowns and movement restrictions, customers have found new, more convenient and safer ways to obtain food and daily necessities, with many turning to delivery platforms for their needs. In a forecast by international research firm IGD Asia, online grocery sales in Asia are expected to grow by 198% by 2023 [1]. This trend corresponds with the spike in demand that foodpanda saw on its platform as various cities across the region impose movement control measures.

With 200 pandamart cloud stores in eight markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Pakistan and the Philippines, pandamart is Asia’s largest network of cloud grocery stores, providing consumers with easy, on-demand access to grocery and household products, delivered within 25 minutes.

During this period of intense growth, foodpanda is investing in additional physical infrastructure to expand pandamart to new markets this year including Japan. foodpanda plans to double the number of pandamarts across Asia in the next year.

“The pandemic has driven more customers in Asia to try online grocery delivery. Since the launch of our first pandamart cloud stores in Singapore and Taiwan in October 2019, we’ve seen customers expand their appetite for online food shopping, especially fresh groceries,” said Jakob Angele, CEO of foodpanda Asia. “Our mid-long term goal is to have a pandamart within 25 minutes’ reach of every consumer in all our markets by the end of 2022. Together with our thousands of partnering merchants on foodpanda shops, we’re ensuring that all communities have access to fresh food and a greater variety of food products and essentials even during challenging times on restricted movements.”

foodpanda and Delivery Hero are leading a new era of e-commerce — quick-commerce (or q-commerce) — delivering groceries and household goods within 25 minutes. In the first quarter of 2021, Delivery Hero reported a strong 400% YoY growth of q-commerce orders and in April alone and processed an average of more than 400,000 daily orders globally, as more customers turn to fast, safe and convenient home deliveries for their daily needs.

foodpanda, Asia’s largest food delivery network outside of China, operates in over 400 cities across 12 markets. foodpanda is a subsidiary of leading global delivery network Delivery Hero SE, of which pandamart makes up almost 30% of Delivery Hero’s cloud store operations globally.

With more than 4,000 unique groceries and household essentials available on pandamart, foodpanda plans to further expand its q-commerce offerings to bring greater convenience, accessibility and choice to communities in big and small cities alike. Across the region, foodpanda also works with tens of thousands of shops-partners like Tesco, Watsons, 7-Eleven and Family Mart to deliver daily essentials via its foodpanda shops vertical.
